Video Exhibitions



MTV is a music company which is owned by another institution called 'Viacom'. In 1985, Viacom puchased 66% of MTV Networks. Then in 1986, it purchased the remaining interest of MTV for $185,000. MTV operates through television channels in which they actively play music and songs by known, mainstream artists along with TV shows revolving around music and real life. MTV has many branches of music which apply to different people and genres i.e. Rock, Base and Dance. The music displayed within the show consist around charts and top 40's etc. this means that the public choose what songs are played on the channel based upon their downloads and purchases. They are very influential as all of the music played within the show revolves around the public interest.
 
 
YouTube is an internet based website that provides the public with the opportunity to search for songs and music videos online. The company was founded in 2005 by Steven Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim. In 2006, Google became the parent company for YouTube and now acts as a Google subsidiary. Anyone can upload on to YouTube and now companies such as VEVO operate through YouTube, further bringing recent music onto the website. YouTube is accessed on the internet through a computer or phone and can be accessed by anyone world wide.
 
VEVO was founded in 2010 by Rio Caraeff. It is owned by many institutions including Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Google and Abu Dhabi Media. VEVO operates in many countries globally including the US, UK, Greece, Germany and Australia. It is a video hosting service whereby many videos are added to it daily. Music added to VEVO depends on who the artist is and whether they have released new songs. The latest music is usually put onto VEVO and can then be accessed by the public (within the legible countries).
 
ITunes is a company run by the Apple company which allows people to download music and videos to their computers or apple devices. The software was developed in 2001 and is updated frequently to improve the service. The latest update was November 2013. All music can be searched on ITunes, ranging from the most recent song to those released decades ago.


SBTV was founded in November 2006 by Jared Edwards. It is a British company specifically for the grime, British hip hop and acoustic genres. The company only has 12 employees in total. SBTV have a YouTube channel where all of their videos can be found. They also actively use social networking to communicate with the public.
